WALTHAM, MA - July 17, 2007 - Top industry analyst firm Gartner, Inc. recently published new data positioning Watchfire as the worldwide market share leader in 2006 in the Application Security Vulnerability Scanning sub-category based on total software revenue according to the most recent, "Market Share: Application Development and Project and Portfolio Management Software, Worldwide, 2006." Watchfire continues its leadership position in this category for the second consecutive year.

In this report, Gartner estimates that the worldwide application development and project and portfolio management software market grew 6.9 percent in 2006 to nearly $7.2 billion and that total software revenue for the security vulnerability scanners market increased by 63.4%percent over 2005 . According to this report, security vulnerability scanners demonstrated the largest growth in this market. The Gartner Dataquest report is the fourth consecutive industry analyst report naming Watchfire as the market-share leader.

"Over the past year, demand for Watchfire's products have grown, and we believe the new market-share report from Gartner verifies that demand, which is largely influenced by the need to secure web applications earlier in the development lifecycle," said Peter McKay, president and CEO of Watchfire. "Watchfire's technology is proven and hundreds of customers rely on it each and every day to provide a level of assurance and to assist with compliance initiatives. In recent months we introduced a QuickScan feature which allows for individual developers to perform security scans during the development process. Results are delivered in the form of a task list as opposed to detailed security reports. This simplifies the process of fixing issues much earlier in the development lifecycle. We also launched a solution that provides IT managers with company-wide visibility and the ability to administer multiple copies of our desktop solution as a way to aggregate vulnerability data into a centralized location and distribute reports to QA and development to facilitate remediation."

This latest report continues a trend of industry achievements for Watchfire. Recent accolades include:

  • Watchfire recognition as the Best Security Company at the most recent RSA Conference, winning three 2007 SC Magazine Excellence Awards.
  • Watchfire named a winner in the Security category award in the SD Times 100
